Marvel's Netflix Series Will Film In New York City!

When your heroes are from New York, you keep them in New York! And that’s just what Marvel and The Walt Disney Company did in a special press conference today when they signed up with the State of New York and New York City to film the newest venture to come out of Marvel Studios (and the largest film / television production project commitment in New York State history) – the direct-to-Netflix exclusive “Defenders” mini-series event.

As we all know by now, Netflix will produce thirteen hour-long episodes featuring Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones, culminating in a 4-8 episode mini-series event wherein the heroes band together to form The Defenders!

Hopefully this opens the door for many future Marvel heroes getting their own shows. What are some characters you'd like to see get the Netflix treatment?

JESSICA JONES

Casting rumors and well-wishes have abounded since this story first broke. The highlight of which, being the appearance of Daredevil’s anti-hero, sometimes-friend, most-times enemy, The Punisher (Hopefully more than one!)

Speculation as to whether or not Marvel will get Thomas Jane from the 2004 Punisher feature film, or switch to someone new, has been the highlighted focus of many an internet thread. The leading choices so far are to get Jane back as the gun-toting, ex-Marine Frank Castle, or to cast Karl Urban, known mostly for 2012’s Dredd, and Lord of the Rings.

IRON FIST

The best part is, with the show being internet exclusive, there shouldn’t be any reason to hold back on the Punisher’s one-man war on gangs and crime the way production might have to if it were on network TV.

Produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Television Studios, filming is set to begin in summer of 2014 and will create thousands of jobs in New York City.
