Guardians of the Galaxy Full Trailer

The Guardians of the Galaxy full trailer is out and about! When I saw it shared all over my news feed today, I was super stoked. My excitement for a live action Rocket is hard to contain. Plus, rebels in outer space with aliens has got me all over it.

In Guardians of the Galaxy, an American pilot named Peter Quill finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan and Nebula.

Tuesday morning a 15 second teaser to the trailer was released to warm everyone up for the full 2:30 one below that debuted Tuesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Check it!

Since I want to like this movie so bad, it can do no wrong. Even so, I still was semi disappointed by the trailer. Although, it gets a little better each time I watch it. I'm not disappointed because I think the movie will be bad, but because I feel like that boring trailer will put a diminish hype for the movie. What's a matter Disney? Don't want this movie to create more intergalactic excitement than the new Star Wars features? Don't downplay my Guardians, yo!

John C. Reilly (Rhomann Dey) and Peter Serafinowicz as Nova Corps officers going over the Guardians files after being captured. Random!

It was sweet to finally see what  Karen Gillan (aka Amy Pond from Doctor Who) was going to look like in this movie. I kept seeing photos of her bald on the internet in preparation for Guardians. Was sad that all her pretty red hair was shaved off! Here she is as Nebula. I've always seen her as a goody-two-shoes in Doctor Who, so it will be interesting to see her as a mean space pirate.

Star-Lords ship was neat. In the comic books, it is a sentient being, like the TARDIS. Hey, there's bound to be a few Doctor Who references when you are in SPACE. The ship looks like something about of Final Fantasy. I can dig it.

We see a flash of Benicio Del Toro as The Collector who first appeared in Thor: The Dark World. Why they thought to bestow one Infinity stone onto someone called the Collector for safe keeping eludes me.

Last, but not least, and my most favorite is Rocket! I enjoyed reading the information from his file on the screen too. I cant wait to hear him talk. I wonder if I will be able to tell it's Bradley Cooper or not.

(15 counts of arson, lol)

Since it is the first trailer, I didn't expect there to be a lot about the plot, but something with more substance would have been nice. I know they want to introduce the characters for people who are clueless on the source material, but it appeared to be executed a little "meh". Something about Drax's run down just seemed unnatural like it was read off the back of a Marvel collectors card.

The trailer itself is a little childish, which is fine because Marvel likes to be for the kids, but it wasn't childish in a way that would be appealing to children. At least, I didn't think so. I wasn't feeling much action or excitement either. They just threw in eight seconds of random fast action bits somewhere and called it a day. I don't like to see one second of characters and have to go back to freeze the screen to see who it is and grasp what is going on.

I can't say that I am some master editor or storyteller, but I would have cut out that whole corny bit with Star-Lord caught stealing in the beginning or seriously shortened it. I know the plot of the movie is that he steals something that Ronan and Nebula are after, but its not like that was really made clear in the trailer anyway. At first, I thought I was watching a Batman Begins trailer when he stumbles upon the bat cave. Even the music was Batmany, and you trailer makers need to stop that crap, okay?

I also would have cut out that junk with the dude taking Star-Lords music player. Was it necessary except to see that Star-Lord is a baby? After each character was was verbally introduced, I would have showed action sequences that show them doing their thing. There was nothing that made any of the characters seem likeable. Put a more obvious jail break and toss in that speedy action sequence they seem to like before the ending and call it a day. I could see myself re-editing the trailer if I get bored! Call me critical.

On an actual movie note, why is Gamora so short? I really had hoped that they would give her the statuesque appearance she seems to have in the comics. Aside from Rocket, she's the shortest one there. She does not look like she can kick my ass. They could have tried to give her presence more kick, but I guess sexism and all? Her file on screen says that she is enhanced. I guess that's supposed to make me believe that there is a chance she is the deadliest woman in the galaxy. Not even Gamora's weird ass heels were helping add much height to her little body. Drax also looks a little stumpy. What gives?

If you give a fan the chance to complain, they can nit-pick all day. That doesn't mean I'm still not excited for the Guardians of the Galaxy. The movie is finally out this year on August 1st and I can't wait! What did you think of the trailer? Disqus below, or visit the Facebook thread.

The Guardians of the Galaxy is a space team that first appeared in Marvel Superheroes #18 in 1969 by Marvel Comics and appeared sporadically since then. The movie team is the second to operate under the name and appeared in 2008.
