Bangladesh Is Big On Comics

Dhaka Comicon from Al Jazeera

Bangladesh is definitely not the first place that comes to mind when you think of comic book culture. Especially when you consider that comics, which aren't exactly cheap for Americans, are very expensive in Bangladesh. According to Al Jazeera, per capita income in Bangladesh is around $1000 a year! But that hasn't stopped a budding western-comic-book fan base from growing. And some Bangladeshi comic companies are popping up too.

The capital city, Dhaka, was host to the 2013 Dhaka Comicon which saw 16000 attendees. And 'Jamil's Comics and Collectables', one of Dhaka's first and only dedicated comic book shops, sold out all 10 copies of New 52 Batman by Scott Snyder much to the owner Jamil's delight. I guess every culture understands the hero archetype. I just didn't expect 'mutant' to translate so well.

Marvel Announces WOLVERINE: ORIGIN II

Wolverine Origin II promo

Marvel has just announced that one of only two books shipping on Christmas Eve December 24th will be Wolverine: Origin II with its nifty two-layer acetate cover. The first cover will be Joe Kubert's wolves looking all menacing in the background, and the second layer, drawn on the acetate film, will be Wolverine's claws dripping blood, ready for the fight!

Remember Marvels from back in the 90s, with its cool double-layered acetate covers? It was one of the first times you'd ever heard the name Alex Ross, and those covers popped out at you like a 10ft balloon! Read more »

The Asgardian Wars: X-Men Plus Thor Equals Sexiness

X-Men The Asgardian Wars

With the second Thor movie coming out in a few months I highly recommend The Asgardian Wars.

Here's the catch. Thor isn't in this book. This book collects a few issues that came out more years ago then I care to admit. It tells the story of Loki at first trying to be a some what benevolent god. Endowing powers to certain people to help them make the world better. So he looks good and can gain a seat with "those who sit in shadow". The powers involved members of Alpha Flight and X-Men. This being Loki, chaos ensues.

The second Part of the book once again stars Loki. This time this is him taking what he wants. Namely Storm! This send the collected might of the New Mutants and the X-Men trying to rescue her and keep themselves alive in the process.

Why would I recommend a book that doesn't have Thor prior to the release of his movie? This book wonderfully shows the large world of Asgard and the realms that make it up. From the elves and Trolls even to the dwarves. Adam would love it!!

Pete's Basement Season 5, Episode 45 - 11.20.12

Something is different about this episode. I can't quite figure it out. Same crew. Same old scotch-drinking host. Same bewilderment about the career of Rob Liefeld. Maybe I'm going crazy. What do you think, folks?
