Rest in peace Richard Griffiths. The portly British actor is probably best known for his role as Harry Potter's uncle, but he shall forever be immortalized in my mind as Dr. Albert Meinheimer and his uncanny evil doppelganger, the master of disguise, Earl Hacker in The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear. Two moments from that movie you will undoubtably recall. First Giffiths in a malfunctioning electric wheelchair, is launched off a balcony, and soars in silhouette against the full moon, E.T. style.
Marvel recently announced the arrival of its long-rumored 'comic streaming' service: Marvel Unlimited, where for $9.99 a month and $59.98 per year (which Marvel claims is a 50% discount), anyone who signs up at marvel.com/comics/unlimited for online access to over 70 years worth of Marvel Comics, with the ability to download and store up to 6 at a time for offline reading. It works through your web browser if you're on a traditional computer, with apps for iOS and (coming soon!) Android.
Do you love comics and cartoons? Do you live near or can you get to New York City? MoCCA Arts Festival is on for the first weekend in April (6th - 7th). There you will find the titans of comics and cartoons collected under one roof, and in a more intimate setting than your typical comic con.
The Museum of Comics and Cartoon Art (MoCCA) almost closed its doors for good and was saved from oblivion by Society of Illustrators. They are running the festival this year for the first time. Come out and thank them by showing some love for your favorite American art form.
